Wow, I'm a huge SM fan and it doesn't ring a bell at all. It sounds very typical of him. I'd say it's just him doodling.

I was "playing roadie" at Sweetwater when this was filmed - was just off-camera to Steve's left with his "real roadie" (fellow forumite Tommy). So, suffice it to say I've heard a few SM tunes myself, but don't recognize that chord progression either...

I do recall Steve warming up that night with "Night Meets Light" before the show - and he seemed surprised I immediately named it.
