well, I never really enjoy seeing someone smash a guitar, but I LOVED the little dials that go up to 11 that turn into the MC logo at the end - fantastic marketing!

ROFL!

As long as it aint one of our beloved Balls, smash away, I say.

Who started all that? Was it Townshend? Hendrix?

The Who would smash everything to bits. Hendrix would set guitars on fire. Ravi Shankar would have heartattacks over the sacriligious behaviour.

well ...

I must admit that this a little bit to straight foward for me :D and also that ruining an instrument (what ever the brand) is not really my cup of tea

I could never be Pete Townsend or Jimy Hendrix :( , but it's good to be me :D

As a kid with a nasty korean guitar it used to pain me watching musicians smash up what I once considered decent gear, now I play EBMM I find it entertaining... :D

Destroying instruments always seemed so wasteful to me... i remember being 7 years old and wanting an electric guitar so bad (didnt get one until i was 13) and then I'd see someone smashing one on TV and I'd feel so bewildered as to why someone would do that.

For every person that smashes a guitar for fun, there is one person that would give anything to have had that guitar.

Wasteful and destructive.

I think when Townshend did it in the 60's it was shocking and outrageous . These days its just a cliche that bands do because companies give them free guitars.

Good point. At least the Who had the balls to put themselves into debt when smashing up the stuff they actually paid for :D

It nearly bankrupted them by all accounts!

I have a book full of funny stories and stuff from various walk of musical life, and I think at one point, John Entwhistle said something to the effect of, "We'd wind up in the green simply by not showing up!!"
