Sometimes I really wonder how some people think.
Get Leo Fender for example. He was the guy who INVENTED the electric bass. Nevertheless, in the pre-CBS Fender(and now as well) the Stratocaster has the right of way.
After a few years, he wanted to build the best bass in the world, the StingRay. It would do what the Fender basses would, only better. He did that okay. When someone though checks the '76 catalog of Musciman, is there a bass on the cover?Nope! It's a guitar....The only place left for the poor relative is on the back of the brochure...
The same happened with G&L.
Now with Ernie Ball. I agree that it is a very famous firm producing several kinds of musical products. In the site though it mentions the StingRay as a GROUNDBREAKING instrument I cannot really see many highlights about it. When you check the T-Shirts offered by EB, you can almost always see the EB guitar but nowhere the StingRay. There is only one T-shirt of a very simple design at the bottom of the page with only the StingRay indication on it. Well what I see is that in a "world of equal instruments, some instruments happen to be more equal than others". Tell me what you think.

First production active bass. Groundbreaking? Probably.

But guitars have always outsold basses. It's the Elvis Factor.

I agree with you but does the same happen with the EB guitar sales? And sometimes history deserves some attention.

Also as Paul McCartney said, Elvis was enthusiastic to learn bass.

Well it was a pity then that he was even more enthusiastic about burgers and fried chicken.

I don't know about guitar vs bass figures at EB. Certain companies, and I would guess EB is one of them, are better known for their basses than for their guitars.

EB Guitars vs Basses

Judging from my production line tour the other week at EB, basses seemed to vastly outnumber guitars. I would say 70% of the instruments made were basses.

Still, WHY does EBMM have so many signature guitar models and NO signature bass models? I, for one, would buy a Pino Palladino signature fretless in a heartbeat.

cause guitarists are shameless whooor's that need a "pro" recommendation and endorsement to want a guitar.

bassists are freethinking independant machines of sound, we purchase basses according to our own desires and tastes. While guitarists are stumbling through life buying anything that has a signature on the headstock.

there can be only none!

Bear in mind that Ernie Ball sells far more product to guitarists than to bassists.

(We're talking strings here.)

The market for guitar-related Ernie Ball clothing is bigger than that for bass-related stuff.

I guess they figured since Flea appears on stage wearing nothing but a sock, they just assumed all bassists like to play nekkid.
