Hey gang, what can you tell me about the characteristics of a Big Al 4 string SSS?
Bass Whisperer's demo has me very interested. Especially the middle coil only....delicious!

I have a Sterling and love the way it feels and sounds.
Does the Big A use a Sterling neck?
Do the body contours melt into your ribcage like a Sterling does for me?

For me, the Sterling is the best "feeling & playable" bass I've ever played.
Will the Big Al body shape/contours and mass disappoint me?

BTW, I'm old and need a rig under 9lbs with minimal body mass...:(
I really can't sample one because most box stores do not have any in stock.
Hook a brutha' up!

My Big Al SSS is 8.5 lbs light even with the 2 batteries in it! Take em out & run passive all night to save some weight too.

Same neck as Sterling, comfortable to play but I'm not sure I'd go as far as curve into the rib cage comfy!

Trust me & get a rosewood version. Its just more full in the low mids unless you're looking for a very snarly aggressive thin cut beast then maple it is.

Thanks for replies gang!

Without ever playing one:

I know the tone will be killa'
I know the quality will be there

My main concern is how it feels once strapped on.
Sterlings are like an extension of me. Amazing design IMO.

Bass Central has some in stock for example...only 8lbs.

My Big Al gets a lot of use. It's my main bass for one of my most active projects. It covers anything you want tonally. It was my first maple fretboard bass, and I can say that I rarely find it doesn't cut, or get fat low end. You have endless options.

As for playability, the neck profile is great, and super slick.

The body feels amazing despite its very angular appearance. It is incredibly comfortable standing or sitting. Mine is an older style body which is alder and is heavier than the current bodies which are made with African Mahogany.
