authentically 'roadworn' SR4

I finally got around to taking some decent pictures of my favorite bass. It's a 85/86, and it's been well loved as you can see. I baby it even if it seems like a moot point. I've had it for about a year and a half, and have put 60 gigs on it (yes, I'm that big of a nerd that I keep track) It's original except for the hipshot tuner and the pickguard, I also removed the finish off the back of the neck (was sitting on the fence whether it was wise but the finish being so checked I figured it was forgivable) A totally random fact about this bass that I think it cool is that Kevin Kane of the Grapes of Wrath knows my bass, he was playing in a band with the bassist I bought it from, I was talking to him at a show and mentioned that I bought a bass from his bassist, he asked which one and when I said the Stingray he asked if it was the orange one? The Grapes of Wrath where one of the first bands I really loved, so it's just icing on the cake for a bass I freaking love. It's coming to the studio with me next week for some long overdue recording, looking forward to eing able to share the results.....

Ps. I went to the a local hole in the wall a couple of weeks back, and the bass player from the band playing that night had a really cool 1984 Stingray in Translucent Teal that he bought brand new in '84. It too was well loved , but sounded flat out amazing!!! That was the lightest Stingray I have ever touched. It could not have been over 8.5 lbs. He told me that he used to have two others , but this being so light they never got played, so away they went. Such cool basses!!!! And yours has such a cool story!

Sweet looking machine, all ways nice to see a gigged instrument that has taken its knocks and looks the better for it , The Stingray and Precision are the best looking basses going when they have a fair few miles on the clock imho, you cant beat the gig worn mojo.

Awesome bass! I love to see a stingray that's been both well played and loved. Something to be said for finding an instrument and putting it through it's paces. Even better if it reacts and comes out the other side.

My working bass of 26 years has the "roadworn" look. The paint is worn through on the arm rest and has a couple of dings from running around with a wireless.

It's another brand and the manufacturer offers a brand new roadworn with the same paint wear and dings. The first time I saw that I about died laughing because it looks exactly like my vintage bass, color scheme and all.

Thanks guys, yeh, this bass is the lightest one I own (besides a short scale hollowbody bass I enherited and rarely actually play) though I've never actually weighed it, will have to do that sometime. This bass opened my eyes to the 2EQ, love it! This bass has also slowed down my plans to achieve a worn finish on the 01 SR4 I bought new, I still love that bass too, actually I like the chunkier neck on it more, but for the time being this is my go to bass.

That's a cool piece, 4 bolt with the truss adjustment at the headstock, chrome battery cover, mute kit AND EBMM logo... truly a forefather to the modern Stingray.

I kind of have always wondered about these "well-worn" vintage beauties. This is what I'm thinking...that the best of the vitnage basses are never for sale, never come up for sale, except at maybe an estate sale, because the best ones stay in a players hand and never leave.

But then again, people buy new "road worn" basses from F*** or Nash. There is a market, even if I don't understand the people who buy those. Maybe its the next best thing. Don't mean to derail the thread, just thinkin with my fingers.
