Steve and Pete

I love your cooperation but I have to jump in here. All EBMM dealers have the ability to participate here. There wont be an exclusive bass guy or guitar guy.

To avoid confusion please don't solicit any offers for any instruments. Feel free to respond if a forumite is looking for something that you have in stock. Lets not post inventory here or available from EB stuff here. You can post, Hey got a new shipment, check out the Pit!

I know that all of you dealers are great guys with fabulous intentions but this will be a better way. It is my guess that the most involved dealers will reap the greatest rewards.

Out of curiosity, are these instruments that lost a buyer (ie "My wife ran off with my accountant so I can't afford to complete this purchase even though I put down a deposit 2 months ago when I ordered the instrument."), or are they EB deciding that they need a Egyptian Smoke Sterling with a black ice pickguard for the "Build a bass" webpage, or what?

I mean, it doesn't matter, but I'm just curious how 20-30 instruments are built without owners already pining away for them and posting on message boards about how Guitar Center said their bass would be done at 3:17pm on the first Monday after a full moon, etc... :D

Here is what they usually are

A retailer that had eyes bigger than his or her wallet at the namm show,
An exporter that has gone sideways
and very rarely we have cancellations of "bucket Space" (factory speak for batches) and have to fill them at the last possible minute usually with easy to sell items.

The last scenario is that you get your orders scheduled out three months from your export and domestic customers. What happens is by chance is that you may not fill week seven out of 12? Do you send everyone home? Or do you make a few popular or unique pieces to fill that weeks gap? We used to make fewer instrumkents those rare weeks but we found out that when we kept our rhythm and dept to our production numbers that the instruments sold quickly. The fact is that our dealers and end users like to have the ability to get something quickly. Lets say that Pete underordered due to the three month lead time and is out of stock on something, I think that he appreciates from time to time being able to get something off the shelf.

Bassmonkee there are no victims here, just sound business.

That's about what I thought.

I certainly wasn't implying that there were any victims for these "available now" deals. While I paid the full price up front when I ordered the White Whale, I know that there are plenty of places that only take a deposit. I also know that when I worked music retail, I dealt with more than one layaway/special order that fell through (musicians aren't always that great with money--who knew?), so I was just curious.

Thanks for yet another peek behind the curtain, Mr Wizard-Big-Poppa-Silver-Bear, sir. :D

PS I loved the cannonball into the pool.
