They are a well reknown American Rock band, their most famous song is The Beast and the Harlot and was featured in Guitar Hero, see video below. Their drummer James Sullivan, died in 2009 and was replaced with Mike Portnoy previously from Dream Theatre (John Petrucci & Co.)

this is their wikipedia entry Avenged Sevenfold - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

and this is the tune that made them famous, I guess... (EBMM content certified - check out the bass player's Stingray)

Hmmmm....

I only get this:

"This video contains content from WMG. It is no longer available in your country."

no wonder I've never heard of them here in Germany.

Sorry guys, back on topic... Listened to a few tracks on iTunes. Pretty cool!

If my understanding is correct, Mike Portnoy didn't replace the Rev, he simply recorded this last album with the band and toured with them this year, since he was the original drummer's hero.

I have always liked their harmonies in their solos. First thing that caught my attention above many of the other bands in their niche.

If you listen to the CITY OF EVIL album you can tell these guys are heavily influenced by bands such as Guns N Roses, Man O War, Pantera, Iron Maiden, and the list goes on. I heard an interview once when that album came out that it was really a tribute album to the bands that influenced A7X. These guys do not limit themselves in both their song writing and playing abilities.
