I used to own a beautiful trans-blue Axis that I regrettably sold several years ago. Since I can't afford to buy a new one right now, the AX40 has caught my attention. Does anybody know how close the neck carve on the AX40 is to the USA Axis?

Havn't played the AX40 but it does have the asymetrical shape like on the Axis and Super Sport. Somebody will be along.

our neck is different than the Axis, it has a flatter radius (16") and the neck back shape, we aim to be close but due to differences in hand sanding they come out a little different.

Don't want to create any false expectations, if you examine our neck and the Axis neck side by side, you'll feel a difference.

Thanks

Hi there. Another sad story of an Axis lost.
As far as your situation goes, here's my 2 cents.

The AX40 is a pretty respectable version of the Axis. As far as looks go, it's pretty much dead on visually. As you would expect, there are some construction differences and hardware downgrades. Overall though, it's pretty close. If you have never owned an Axis before, and wanted to get something cheaper, it's an excellent choice until you can upgrade to the real thing.

Now, here's the downside. In your situation, you have owned an Axis, and know what the neck feels like. IMO, the neck on the Axis is what sets it apart from other guitars. If the feel of the neck is the most important to you, I think you would be disappointed with the AX40 over time. On the other hand, the neck on the AX40 is very good, it's just not going to feel the same as what you might expect.

Even though the Floyd on the AX40 is a downgrade from the Axis version, it's very good compared to other Floyd copies on guitars in the same price range.
