I played an AX40 at my local shop tonight, and the action was a fair bit too high, so I turned it sideways and looked at the bridge, and it was "floating" above the body by at least 3/16" to a quarter inch! It was level with the body, but certainly *far* from flush with it.

I was under the impression that the back of the bridge was supposed to rest directly on the wood (that the Floyd in these is pitch-drop only and not 2-way, same as EVH Wolfgangs), and the front was "supposed" to be level with the body, but Pat answered in another thread that the front actually ends up a couple of mm higher than the back on most of the AX40's because the neck pocket isn't routed quite as deep as the AXIS where it is flush and level.

Nevertheless, I asked the sales tech if they had adjusted the bridge for some reason, and he said no, that's the way it came from the factory, and that these are supposed to be 2-way tremolos. The way it was setup, you certainly could pull back a good deal on the trem before it hit the wood, but then I'm afraid it would actually end up cracking the laquer finish when it bottoms out...

Can someone official please confirm if this was setup that badly out of whack from the factory or if that's truly the way it's supposed to be?

The tech offered to order me a factory fresh 2011 limited edition in TR if I want it, but I'm not sure if it's setup that badly from the factory.

Thanks

I think just a quick tightening of the trem claw will pull it back into position. sometimes the springs can stretch or even get knocked loose. I would check that first.

It should be set so the trem only lowers the pitch.
