Hi all,
I know most players here probably use High end tube amps but Im just going to throw it out there.

Has anyone used their Axis (or any Musicman guitar) thru a Line 6 amp/head or similar?
And if you have did you notice anything different about the sound? Or does the distinct sound and feel of your guitar change?

The sound "is" the amp, so it does sound different.

However, the Line 6 provides some very cool and useful tones. I've tried it through a POD Live XT and the guitar feels amazing (hell, does it not ALWAYS feel that way?)...and it sounded great, considering the price range of the POD...

What I meant by feel is how your guitar responds to different amps and effects etc etc and in this case a digital amp of any brand.
Both my Axis and Les Paul sound and feel slightly different when plugged into the same amp with the same settings.

I have gigged almost exclusively Axis guitars through Line 6 Duoverb amps for close to 10 years. Before that, used to use tube Marshall JCM900's and a brief spell with a very unreliable Engl.

The key is, use your ears and not your perception of what gear you are 'supposed' to have. My Duoverb's are everything I could ever want. They are clean, dirty, loud and reliable. They have a nice DI and cheap as chips on eBay. I had 4 when I lived in England, and now I have 3 of them in the USA!

And as for the sound, I love them!

And here's for a quick blind test, I recorded 'Sweet Child Of Mine' twice with cover bands. Once using an Engl, once using my Line 6. Can you tell which one is which? Both recordings I used my red Axis, both were close mic'd with a single SM57.

My Engl has been reliable so far. :)

I would love an Engl Invader but over here they are like $4000 retail just for the head alone...I refuse to pay that.
Though I did see a full Powerball II halfstack going for $3500, I didnt like the sound of it.

Which one do you have?

I play through my Digidesign Eleven Rack. It's GREAT and comes with an interfaced version of Pro Tools LE. Play, record, what have you it. It is AMAZING value for what you can do. Big brother Axe-FX has got their share of loyalists, but at over 3x the price, the Axe-FX is not 3x the tone, not even close. The tone is better on the Axe-FX, but not by much, not by much at all.

Half the things I record, people can't notice it's modeled. POD stuff can be alright too. Fellow forumite and awesome player Dhalif plays through a POD and has wonderful tone. Youtube him. You'll see some great examples of a JP model and what it sounds like through a POD modeler.

Good luck man, and if ya just want an AMP, Blackstar has fabulous tone at awesome prices.
