Has anyone ever added a boost circuit to their axis? Would adding somthing like that affect the tone while not engaged? I like the idea of a boost like the one in the luke3, but if it would change the tone I wouldn't want it.

A preamp in the guitar always changes things a bit. The most important reason is that you lack the capacitance from the cable and that the input impedance of the preamp now counts, and not that of your first active stage. Attempts with load capacitance and matching the impedance aren't always successful, although I'm not sure how careful people are.

Also, your current volume pot changes sound, and your tone pot works in a way that an active treble control will not, so all that would change, too.

maybe a boost/volume pedal would be a better option, the axis tone is perfect as is.
