hi forumites,

i know some of you own both models.
can you tell me if there are any differences that you feel between both guitars?
for example the neck. it is a bit different on the axis, is it really a different feeling?
how is the position of the pu-switch?
which gutiar is more comfortable?

i´m thinking about buying an axis model to give my original evh some rest-time. ;)

Do a search of this topic and you'll come up with more than enough info from prior threads to satisfy your curiosity.

I think you'll find bias in any post based on which one people own. If they own both you'll probably get a balanced report.

I own an EVH that I would not trade for an Axis. I suppose if you gave me an Axis and $1k it might help me to consider the deal more seriously... ;) But seriously, I believe with regards to any good guitar, you get use to what you're playing and that becomes the standard by which you judge others.

My personal observations are that the Axis has some improvements with regard to the body contour and the location of the pickup switch. I found my self accidentally hitting the switch on my EVH while strumming. And looking down at it I couldn't tell at a glance which pickup was selected. I say "was" because I turned the switch a quarter of a turn and solved both problems. It now switches front to back so I can see it better and if I hit it accidentally it rarely changes the pickup selected. Long story longer, the switch location on the Axis probably serves to solve both of these problems without modification.

Can't say that I'm as big of a fan of the Axis neck. I know, I know, they are "identical" with the exception of more width at the base. Not the end of the world for sure. But from a pure feel standpoint I prefer my EVH.

Same pickups. No big deal.

Axis has more wood routed out for the control cavity. We could debate all day whether or not it matters tonally. I'm sure it doesn't. I'll let you decide.

If you can live without a Floyd, the Axis SS is a real monster. It'll get several different tones and do many different things. -Very impressive. This would be the Axis I would get if I were getting one in addition to my EVH.

Again, do a search. I'm sure plenty will respond here too. It's a personal choice thing but honestly, if you already own an EVH, I don't personally believe you can do better with an Axis... just slightly different unless you go with the Super Sport.

Good luck.
