What is an AXIS EX? - Lew posted a pic of his pacific blue opn ein the Look at My Guitar pics thread on the last page! i have to say it looks just as good as the orange one!

Knox, Axis EX is a Japan assembled guitar. The parts are were all made in the US and then shipped abroad. I think SteveB was just selling his red one. It's pretty much an Axis, EVH time frame if I am correct. There are a few owners and they can correct me if I've gotten any of this wrong.

One small correction.. it wasn't me with an Axis for sale. My one and only EBMM is a Petrucci 6 string, which is indeed red (Pearl Redburst), and I won't be selling it any time soon!

One thing that I noticed in all the pics I've ever seen of an Axis EX, is that the maple top on the EX is not bookmatched, meaning that it is one piece of maple over the whole top, as opposed to a piece of maple split down the middle and "butterflied" over the top of the guitar. In all USA EBMM maple tops, you will see a line right down the middle of the body where it is bookmatched.
The reason for bookmatching the top of the guitar is symmetry of the figuring. When the wood is cut and layed open, the grain figuring will be in the same place on the top and bottom of the center line. None of the EX models I've seen have had this.

Yes its a one piece maple top. And its built to the same specs as the original EVH using the same US components but assembled in Japan. Basically an EVH without the signature transfer on the headstock...

Sorry Ernie...but my Axis EX starts with a G just like the US ones!
Admittedly if you find an EBMM with a serial starting with A it is usually from Japanese origins (but not always).
The only surefire way of telling a US EVH and a Japanese Axis EX apart is looking for the Eddie signature on the front of the headstock AND a "made in S.L.O. CA USA" decal on the back.

I'll take the trans orange one of you if you are getting rid of it - but is it an AXIS EX? The Blue one looks tempting to and if its an AXIS then I'd probs take that - or maybe all of them.........Mmwuahhahahaha........(Evil laugh!)
