I have not played/owned any guitars with a floyd rose (fr) bridge....I've been a bit leary of the high maintenance they have been associated with...BUT I was in my local music store, and looked at an axis today and since the bridge does not float,
does that eliminate some/most/all of the legendary headaches of the fr bridge?

tuning up hassles, replacing stringsset up intonation etc...

Thanks..

Even the best locking trem will take longer to setup (intonate, change string etc) than a non locking sytem. Once setup the MM trem works well and personally I'm glad they are mounted flush and don't float.

Colin said it all in his last sentence. It's much less of a headache to set up because "it does not float" The floating floyds are much more of a pain in the butt.

Floyds are great & the maintenance really isn't as bad as some people make it out to be. I have to say though, as someone who has used Floyds exclusively for years, the MM vintage trem w/ locking tuners works way better than I ever thought it would. Makes string changes quicker too.

The Floyd is really no big deal to work with. I think it's a myth started by naysayers that it is.

Floating Floyds are somewhat of a pain to tune though.

Everything you need to know about Floyd set up and maintanence can be found in the Erlewine books----you should buy both ----but How to Set-up Your Guitar gives alot of step by step instructions. I've never found floyds to be any more of a pain than any other trem system. Ever try to properly set up a Fen*** trem? Just as much of a bear.

Buy a trem tool that mounts on the back of the headstock. My biggest problem with locking trems is running out of room with the fine tuners and not having a wrench handy.

Matt, the non-floating Floyd, IMHO is the way to go.

And ever since using the EBMM/Gotoh's on my EVH & Axis guitars, no other Floyd feels "right."
