First post here, looking for some advice ...

I have a new model Axis with the Floyd Rose trem and I was wondering if there were options for a different locking nut, more specifically a lower profile unit which brings the strings closer to the fretboard?

I am wanting to get my action a little lower and feel this is my last alternative. I have already had the neck shimmed and feel the strings still have some leeway to come down at the nut. To my surprise, I removed the nut thinking there might be a spacer/shim that I could remove and there was none.

Has anyone done this or know if there are locking nuts available with a lower profile? Thanks in advance

First off, welcome!

Secondly, I would suggest purchasing an extra nut from EBMM Customer Service (c'mon... perverts!). From here you have two options: 1) Bubba's way.... You can take a wet sander, hold the bottom of the nut to it using a fairly course paper like 180 with some water to lubricate... applying even pressure. Take down a little metal at a time to your liking. Should be all set. 2)Engineer it.... find out how much you want removed, and take the nut to a tool//die shop. They should be able to mill it down for you with a high degree of accuracy.

The good news is that if you mess it up... you can always go to the stand by unit with factory spec.

I would not recommend removing wood from the neck as this is irreversible!

If you are going to install a new nut, a Floyd Rose R2 will work fine. I had I worn out one on one of my Eddies and it worked beautifully.

Cheers
