Axis Neck Question

Just got myself a second hand ASS and I have a question about the neck.

It’s pretty uniformly dark, at first I just assumed it was dirt but the colour seems too consistent for that. Wondering if I should try cleaning it up or just leave it alone. Purely aesthetic, it plays and feels fine, I will try and get some pics tonight.

yeah give us some pics!

i use 000 or 0000 steel wool to clean the gunk off the neck if its real dirty. you can get it looking new, just dont take too much finish off the neck.

The neck was Tru-oiled and waxed with legit Birchwood-Casey goo last year, after a bit of a go with some 0000 wire wool. The Tru-oil tends to mellow the colour a bit in my experience. I don't think its dirty, so I wouldn't bother.

The colour is uniform up and down the neck. The real dirty necks that I have seen have the gunk congregated in the usual playing surfaces that get most attention (i.e. not up the dusty end, on the back of the neck etc)

Hi steve, thanks for the info, I thought it was more likely something like that due to the uniform nature of the colour. I quite like it, looks played.

...it is a VERY heavily figured neck as well, which also makes it look a little darker than some of its more anaemic cousins.

I would say leave it as it is. It looks kinda cool!

yep its cool as it is, just give it a clean, but nothing drastic, when theres heavy bidreseye goin on it will always look darker.
