Greetings, I am new here and have been shopping for a Left handed Axis SS and have a few questions. First, I have heard, although I am not sure I can trust the source, that there can be issues with the Axis necks (warping). Can anyone tell me if you've experienced any trouble with your Axis necks?

Also, Customer service told me that they will not put a Floyd Rose on a left handed Axis SS. Does anyone here know if there is a specific reason why? I've seen Floyd's on other left handed guitars, and in fact have one on my Hamer Chaparel, so I don't think its because its a left handed model.

If anyone has anything to add that may help me in my decision please chime in.

Thanks.

Welcome :)

1) I have never heard of warping of any EBMM necks. The only thing is they are more "at risk as far as climate changes due to the way they are finished (Birchwood & Casey) I adjust my neck on my Luke about twice a year (Summer and Winter) same when I had my Axis.
2) EBMM doesn't offer Floyd Rose for southpaws unfortunately. Its just one of the decisions they made due to the smaller lefty market/demand I would assume Sorry :(

Welcome fellow southpaw to the forums!!

I thought the same thing when I first got here about floyd rose, but after purchasing my Luke, I realized how good the vintage trem is. It is even better than the floyd, and more user friendly. They offer the following guitars for lefties...

  1. Axis Super Sport
  2. Silhouette Special
  3. Luke

I know your pain as a left handed guitarist and trust me when i say, that you will love your EBMM. I have another on order and will be ordering my 3rd once the Limited edition 08 comes out. You won't be sorry!!!

They really are the best guitars ever!!!

Welcome Gundog,

Never heard of any neck issues with the Axis!!

That's the beauty of being one of the "lefty brothers", us righties always have someone to "feel " sorry for. LOL. Honestly, I know it must be frustrating at times.

But hey, look on the bright side, you can STILL own a Musicman!!

Larry, enjoy the "anticipation!:)

NEVER...EVER....EVER EVER....NEVER....EVER....had a problem with any of my EBMM necks...except for the fact that they're addictive...and it makes it hard to enjoy playing any other guitars...seriously.

Just play any EBMM backwards like Hendrix did with his guitars, then you can have any model you want! The floyd equipped ones would be easy, all you need to do is re-intonate, no mods necessary to the nut needed. :D

Thanks to all who've responded. Is there a recommended application to treat the neck with to lessen suseptibility to climate changes?

I would love to be able to play one for myself prior buying one. I have seen and handled a few, but all were right handed. I was leaning toward the Luke at first, but after looking a few Axis' over, I have decided to go with the Axis SS. I saw one online in Pacific Blue burst, no tremolo though and it was an MM90. :( I want an HH with tremolo. Loved that Pacific Blue burst! The Honey burst is very nice and the Natural is good too. Decisions, decissions. I wish they would make one in green, like they did the EVH models in the early 90's. Now that was a color I could get used to.

I've got three Axis Sports' and one Axis Super Sport. Never had any issue at all with the necks.

As far as treating them, have a look at the FAQ's and it tells you about the oil/wax treatment, which seals the neck. Birchwood Casey stuff is the stuff to use.

Can't help you with the colour though....

Maybe this will help you man............

Cause i am super anal retentive when it comes to my guitar. I am obsessive to say the least on how they perform!

The Axis i bought recently, was stored for years in the case. It is a 97' model. Now, storing guitars in cases is BAD news unless you do it properly, taking into account temp and environment. I wont get into that at all.
Lets put it this way. the guitar i bought was i great shape, but the frets were green ( from corrosion) as well as the neck was. I took fine sandpaper and steel wool and made the thing shine like new. No joke, the thing looks amazing now.
Point being that the axis neck is straight as an arrow with no sign of warpage even in the least bit from the crappy environment that the previous owner had it in obviously.
These necks are really some of the best i have ever seen on an instrument. And i am NOT just saying this cause i am on the EBMM forum. I couldnt care less about that actually.
The necks are totally custom quality and build. Awesome to say the least.

I once inquired a long time ago with EBMM customer service to ask about what kind of truss rod they use and they told me it is single but a tad bit larger than usual. I am bringing that up because i am sure they have taken all this into account for building a guitar with a 'no-finish' neck.

I have NEVER heard anything remotely close to issues with EBMM necks. The only thing about these guitars is if they fit your personality and tastes IMHO. Thats it. The quality of them is a non-issue. Thats one main reason i bought mine. Cause it looks like whoever built it, took the time to make an 'instrument' and not just pieces of wood put together.

Forgot to mention as well, that the necks are made with so much detail that if no one told you, you would swear it is a ONE piece neck. The two pieces are glued together so accurately from the SAME piece of wood that the grain lines are continuous!
This also adds to the strength. Being a two piece that is. Plus being as thick as it is.

I had a two piece maple neck made for me from USACG, who makes killer necks and it was pale in comparison to the Axis neck i have. Dont get me wrong, USACG makes so really good necks and parts, but the EBMM Axis neck is a glove and is made REAL WELL.
