Apparently, the Axis has the same pickups as the EVH had, but I think they added leads for single coil modes as used on the Axis Super Sport and Axis Sport... Jon or Derek could clear this up for sure, 'n maybe Barry?

Jimi is right..same pickup, the only mod is the wires for coil tapping with the 5 way switch.

Acording to Dimarzio (wich i found out today) the VH and axis are simmilar to the Tone zone

Yeah I am curious about which pup is the most similar in sound to the Axis. Some say the tone zone, and others say that the air zone is actually closer.

I've talked directly to DiMarzio too and have been told that the closest production pickups to the Axis/EVH pickups are the Tone Zone (bridge) and Air Norton (neck). I personally don't don't consider these pickups to sound a lot like the EBMM pickups but they do have some similar characteristics. TZ and AN are warmer with less edge and are more distorted.

Well, if it's good enough for Vinnie Moore (he's got a Tone Zone in his customized Silhouette Special), chances are it'll work for you too... :D

The story goes like this:

EVH had 3 sets of pickups to decide on which ones were to be implemented into his signature
guitar. They all sounded similar and he could'nt decide so Steve Lukather came in and helped him figure it out , and 1 set was chosen. Out of the other 2 sets Dimarzio brought forth the Air Norton and Tone zone......
