Hey all, I was just admiring my Axis... and I can't believe the fit and finish of the pickups (or the whole guitar for that matter). Before the first "incarnation" of this guitar, I can't recall any guitars that have this direct type of pickup mount and in particular, the routering job. Could this be an EBMM innovation? It may have been done before, but I doubt any match this guitar... Any thoughts?

I love this method of installing humbuckers directly into the wood....It improves the tone of the pickups tremendously. The pickups can be affected by the vibrations in the body as well as the strings. I don't think that EBMM cane up with this, but they know that it works....other guitar companies are catching on!

True, true! I know they really didn't come up with theory, but I think EBMM's method is second to none!

I want to say that the maple cap is somewhere between 1/8" to 1/4". whoever came up with it is a genius, because I think the Axis may very well be the best rock guitar out there.

I honestly don't know that the direct mounting of pickups to the wood makes that much of a difference in the tonal qualities. The most important interaction is between the pickups and the strings.

looks more like 1/8 th to me. I'm not convinced that the advantages of direct mounting outweigh the convenience of height adjustment but I do agree that the Axis is a great axe (and not just for rock)

Nah, I don't think direct mount pickups change the sound much as long as they are at the proper height. My comments were geared more towards the actual fit and finish of the pickups. Look at an Axis and it seems flawless without any pickup rings or pick guards in the way! I've seen other guitars try to pull this off, but the routering is so clean on this guitar! EB has some serious Mojo! It's ridiculous! I gotta go play it now!!!

I can't wait. I think the Axis was the under rated Blue Dawn guitar...
