Hi,

Just got a secondhand Axis, love the neckshape and overall feel, but have few questions:
1. The neck pickup is much lower that the bridge one and can't be raised-is it normal?
2. The back of the pickups is stamped : BHWB1BCL for bridge and BHNN2 for the neck- are these original ones?

Sorry for my noob questions but can't find the details in the 'ol good internets;)
Thanks

P.S. Yes, I know the rules here, will post pics as soon as I put it back to shape...

I just took at quick shot of my new Axis. I have NOT done any adjustments to it as it plays great and I'd like to keep it that way :). This is the stock set-up right from the factory and should answer question #1.

Thanks Steel, just figured that the cavities are different,so that explains problem number 1. The second question remains unanswered so far. Anyone???? :)

The height is normal. Neck pickups are usually lower in height. I thinks it's because when the string is pushed against a fret, it affects the distance more at the neck.

Strings vibrate in a wider arc toward the centre of the string, which means the neck pickups 'senses' more movement and therefore gives more output. If I use two identical pickups, the sound from the neck pickup will be noticeably louder. To get a better balance of volumes between the pickups, bridge pickups are frequently wound hotter and/or neck pickups are often set lower. It's one of the reasons that many pickup manufacturers might have neck and bridge versions of the same pickup.

Those are the original pickups... Set up just as they should be.

All is well. Now play the hell out of it.
