Hi there,

do the Axis's/EvH's pups come with a 2-conductor- or a 4-conductorcable?
Was there a change from 2-cond. to 4-cond. at some point?

thx,
Swen

They are said to be the same pickups as the ones on the Supersport. Due to the fact that the ASS has five-way-switching with split sounds, I would suggest they have four conductors. But thats just a guess.
Maybe anybody else can shed more light on this.

Cheers,
Mikey

They are the same pickups, the EBMM guys have confirmed this on many occasions. The only difference is you have separate wires for the start/finish of each coil with the 4 conductor wires.

On the EVH there wasn't a need for coil splits, so I'm guessing that's why they only had 2 wires.

I'm confused. Wasn't a need? I can certainly confirm that the Axis is 4 conductor and the 2 tied together come down to the switch....making coil splitting easy. (I did it) Why would the EVH be different? Did Eddie say "only 2 wires"? I know wiring was not his strong suit.....

Well, I'm guessing either EVH didn't want coil splits or he was happy with what Sterling & Dudley came up with (w/o splitting). Hence, no need for 4 conductor wires on the p'ups. As the story goes, Dimarzio came up with different prototypes (of which Luke picked the final set), so they probably just didn't go to the trouble of running the extra wires.

With the introduction of the Axis Sport, splitting was part of the switching scheme so access to all the coils would have been an issue.
