Hi, My first post here.

Other than the finish, binding and birdseye neck, are there any other big differences between an Axis Super Sport and an Axis Sport? Does the Sport play as nicely as the Super Sport? How about the pickups?

I used to have a Super Sport HH that I sold a couple of years ago. I really miss it and I want to buy another EBMM soon. I have never played an Axis Sport and was just wondering how they stack up against the Super Sport.

I believe the sports were available with pickguards and single coil pickups....from what I recall, they played similarly, but the axis and axis ss seem a little nicer...(just my opinion)

Body wood is different. The sport was solid ash in all configurations, the super sport is basswood capped by maple for the buckers and ash capped by maple for the MM90's. Sport was also available in s/s/s and h/s/s configurations and the super is either HH or 90's only. Neck profile/radius is the same.

The Sport has an Ash body where the ASS has a Basswood body. The pickups are the same. The Sports are nice and you can usually get one for a decent price used. Jefferey is right the 3 pickup combination Sports had a pickguard, but there are a few floating around europe that have the 3 pickups and don't have a pickguard, those are pretty cool in my opinion.

Hope this helps, Glenn |B)

Some time before they were discontinued, the Sports were produced in HH and MM90 versions without the pickguard.

I've heard that some were available with out the pickguard in SSS and HSS, but I've personally never seen one (that I can remember anyway).

The Sport is a great guitar and they look killer with the translucent finishes. Plus, they are going for an absolute steal on e-bay. Grab one, they're cool!

Best value out there! They go cheap. Get one with MM90s and never look back ... that is a killer combination (ash & MM90s).

That's the sunburst one yeah?

It's been on there for a couple of months now. I'm half tempted to send him an e-mail telling him to be more realistic with the price. He needs to drop at least £200 off the price if he wants to move it.

My Axis Sport definitely has a different vibe to it than my EVH. Great guitars, I wish they were still in production. I'd love to find one w/ an HSS config.

I think there's one on e-bay (US) right now. It's had some mods done to it, so you could use that to try and get it for less.

Failing that, there are a couple in stock at Royal Music in NY.

Yeah - I had the same thought - £500-600 I might be interested, but not at that price.

Amen to that. I played one last weekend for the first time. Killer vibe! What an awesome guitar. The MM90's sounded great. An incredible player!

The Sport's a very cool guitar. Mine was light as a feather (HSS hard-tail) and sounded really nice. Though the neck and action were great quality (of course), the shape didn't work for me.

I've got an Apple Sunburst Axis Sport. I agree with Beej, MM90's, Solid Swamp Ash, Schaeller Hdwr, a patented silent circuit all come together to produce some of the most distinct tones I've ever heard. I play mine thru a 65 Blonde Blackface Deluxe Reverb. = TONAL NIRVANA! If you can find one of these, beg for it!
