Howdy folks. Just a quick Axis question. Do they have like a forearm cut or contour? It's not like a sharp Tele kind of 'non-cut' is it? Thanks in advance.

We don't answer questions around here... :D

Just messin with ya, bro...welcome to the board.

The Axis only has a countour on the back portion of the body, where it will rest on your body (your stomach area, etc.) Everything else is straight cut, top of body, i.e. no arch tops, the sides of body (where the cream binding meets between body and top), and so on.

Hope this helped you...Timmy O', if you'd be so kind as to post your Axis pics so that our good new friend Thrill here can see 'er at different angles, that would rule. (Anyone else is free to help our new dude as well...) :)

Take care buddy!

I complained about this when I first bought my Axis right here in this very forum. It felt weird for about a day or two. Now I don't notice it enough to care, and I switch back and forth from strat-ish guitars (with the forearm contour) quite a bit. If you are planning to buy an Axis, don't let this stop you. You'll be missing out on a great guitar.

My two cents.

Wow! Quick AND friendly. Thanks for the info. I am really looking into this guitar again after my brief run with G&L. The Axis would just be more of a versatile instrument to me I think. The G&L is nice but I don't really care for modifiying anymore, maybe a pup change but that's it. It's only geared for vintage sounds more or less. How many different styles of gigs does your Axis get you through?

Will.

Cool Mark that's awesome! I've mainly been a strat/PRS type of player for the longest time. I always liked the simplicity of a Tele but hate the lack of a forearm cut. But that's cool that the Axis would/could easliy convert me from what I'm used to. Thanks again. :D

Quick and friendly...you got lucky. We usually leave you hanging for a few days. :D

Glad to help you out, bro. As far as what you can cover with an Axis, check out this thread:

http://www.ernieball.com/forums/showthread.php?t=4967

Post #9 (turn me on, dead man...turn me on, dead man...) is hbucker's review of an EVH, which, save 7 differences, is the same guitar as the Axis. (If you ask me what they are, new guy, I swear I'll head over to Travis and smack you!) :p That should help you out a bit...

Alright, because I'm a nice guy, and to save the hassle of posting it later, here you go:

EVH/Axis differences:
1. Volume knob now labeled "Volume" on Axis, instead of "Tone" on EVH.
2. Axis pickup selector switch relocated to below volume knob instead of near lower horn on EVH.
3. Axis neck at base increased in width by 1/32" to lessen/prevent high E slippage.
4. Saddles on Floyd rest strings directly across, EVH had offset saddles.
5. Pickup wiring on Axis has third wire added for more switching options, only two wires on EVH pickups (aside from wiring, they are the same pickups either way)
6. Body contour added on torso area of Axis, straight body (no cut) on EVH.
7. Lack of signature (obviously) on Axis.

Now leave me alone...sheesh, new people. :p

Hey Will... Welcome to the forum... :)

Last Sunday I was playing at a huge birthday barn jam that was held for a friend of mine - I had my trans blue Axis Sport, my pedals, and a SF Deluxe Reverb... there were a whack of people there I hadn't played with before, including members of this fusion/jam band outta Montreal and a couple guys who were heavy into newmetal radio covers, and I was happily flowing along with all of them throughout the day; I went from comping out "Fly Me To The Moon" riffing "Stray Cat Strut" and groovin' "Truckin'", to "Highway Star", "Sweet Home Alabama" and "Everlong" with no more than a flick of the pickup switch and a kick of a pedal. I love the versatility of these guitars. They're great live instruments! imho, of course... :D

Thanks guys that's exactly what I was hoping for! I have been trying to find a guitar for the longest time that I feel can cover me in whatever situation I come across. I even got one of these and it STILL didn't cover alot of the bases it claimes to do. Link: http://community.webshots.com/user/thrill74
And here too at the bottom. Link: http://edroman.com/guitar/quicksilver/gallery03_qsg.htm

Did nothing for me after like 5k! But that's alright. I can go in peace now. :D

Thanks again! BTW Tim, those pics are about as real as I've ever seen ;) !

Will.

So what is the wait time for an Axis SS? Just in a natural finish. I know MF has them but they offer only in one color. I'm not crazy about Guitar Center but if that's what it takes then what kind of wait time have some of ya'll have had?

3-4 months is the standard turnaround time for a new instrument from EBMM...unless we don't like you. :D

All kidding aside, this is the general turnaround time...

In that case, you guys REALLY don't like me ;)

Might be worth pointing out that it may take 5-6 months. I suppose it comes down to how busy they'll be (especially after a successful NAMM!!!) and how good the wood supply is.

As for the Axis body shape, unlime a Telecaster, which is a huge bulky plank of wood, teh Axis is actually a surprisingly small body so the flat top really never gives any comfort problems. And wait until you play that neck

If you do find it uncomfortable, remember that the Luke and Petrucci models are even more versatile and have a strat style body. You should actually buy one of each you know... :D

I absolutely love Petrucci! I just wish I could get a Maple fretboard on one though. The Silhouette just doesn't do it for me, looks-wise. That's the 2nd issue with the G&L I had. Plays and sounds great but standard looks with too much of a vintage vibe, all the time. Good for the price though. That's why I am really considering the Axis. I can pretty much conclude that Petrucci tones can come from one, yes? If only I could play like him :p !

Hey thrill, I see you are posting from Travis AFB. I've done a little work there myself. AIR POWER!

Anyway, you are just right up the road from where these guitars are made. I don't know how the EBMM guys are about factory tours, but maybe you could set yourself up with one.

There a lot of opportunities here to find what you are looking for used, but if you want a new guitar, my understanding is that the typical wait time for an Axis is about 3 months. Well worth the wait.

Hey nobozos that's cool. Another team Travis player :D . Since I've been out here I've been to alot of great places. EMG, Mesa, Alembic, Arlen Ness, JellyBelly... The folks at Alembic were pretty down to earth. I got to play Greg Lake's old guitar! But I would LOVE to get a chance to see the process at Music Man. Anytime they would let me in I'd jump at the chance!
