Axis rear control cover plates...No longer recessed?

I've been looking around online at some new Axis guitars.

Am I seeing this correctly? It looks like the control cavity cover is not recessed.

If this is true...when did this start?

Hi bsteff,
I think it's been a while since they switched from the recessed plastic covers to the non recessed metal ones. I think it was because of the laquer build up during the finishing process that made it more difficult to fit the covers in the recessed cavity.

It started sometime around when they launced the BFR line. Was that 2006?

My 2006 Silhouette cover is recessed, as was my 2007 Axis. I've seen a 2008 that was not recessed, so I'd guess they started in 2008.
