hi forumites,

i´m thinking about buying a rosewood axis. but i don´t had the chance to play one of these beauties yet, so it would be a "do i like it or not" buy.

shurely someone of you outthere has both guitars, a normal axis / evh and a rosewood. so please tell me, what are the differences in sound, feeling in your hands, weight and so on.
and would you go for a hardtail super sport or a normal one with the floydisch trem?

I have had both. The rosewood definitely had a darker sound. Mine had the MM trem, but I would personally go hardtail next time, to get that much more sustain. As for feeling different, not enough for me to notice anything.

I dont own the maple necked Axis anymore, but have owned in the past. Currently own and love my Rosewood Axis. My observation is that the neck on the Rosewood feels better in my hands almost smoother than the Maple necks do, if you can believe that... Who knows it may be infatuation :) but it sure feels like there is a subtle improvement over the maple.

Someone on recently described the rosewood axis as a warm, thick sound. The rosewood axis' are a thing of perfection. The cleans are to die for and the sustain is amazing. There is a tone differece obviously with all of that rosewood but it's a good kind of difference, if that makes sense. The necks are a work of art. they fell as if they were made just for your hands, and they are as smooth as glass.
Hope this helps in some way. The rosewood axis is an amazing instrument!

i have 3 axis. 2 rosewoods and one maple necked.
as described already the tone is a bit darker.
the feel of the neck is unbeatable. the sustain i good with all axis i have.
one difference is that the tone has another, directer, more pianolike attack.

BTW, i sell my humbucker rosewood axis (and keep the MM90 one) if you're interested.
shipping to germany from austria is no prob and you dont have any customs and tax hassles...

I briefly had a Rosewood hardtail MM90. The guitar was beautiful and sounded very thick and dark, however to go the other way from the other replies I personally didnt get on with the neck...the rosewood neck felt stickier/slower than my maple Axis. Worth a try before you buy if you can...

so did you end up getting the Rosewood?

I just picked up a Rosewood Axis SS with the MM tremelo (though I don't keep the bar in it). I've had an EVH for 13 years now and needed something to take the pressure off the EVH, it was showing fretware and getting more and more dings in it.

I've only had the Rosewood for a few days, but so far I love it. It's so similar to the EVH, yet a little different. Mine is actually brighter, but that's probably since the Rosewood has new strings on it, while the EVH has VERY old strings on it. Still to early to notice subtle differences, but I'll say that I love having the second Music Man!

I also picked up an old Music Man 212-HD 130 amp a few weeks ago as well, loving the Music Man gear!

The first EBMM I ever played was a Rosewood ASS with humbuckers and hardtail. Needless to say, I fell in love with EBMM guitars! I do remember it sounding dark and heavy, even through a Marshall, which I normally don't care for. I completely forgot about the Rosewood models, but now that you've reminded me, I may have to get one! Someday...

+1 on the neck. The one I played in GC in Vegas felt just like this, though as it was the floor model it may have had lots of sticky hands on it.

I had a rosewood Axis SS with MM90s. Although the MM90s weren't the sound for me, the feel of the guitar was unreal. I do plan on buying another with EVH pickups at some point. We'll see.

Make me a hardtail Axis and I'll charge it tonight.

I've had my hardtail rosewood ASS for about a year now and love it. The neck really sold me on it. I picked it up at the guitar store, played it a little, found the neck to be amazing and just had to have it. Been happy with my decision ever since.
