I stopped by a shop for lunch today, and on the menu (special of the day) was an AXIS rosewood. It had a basswood body, with a rosewood top and rosewood neck/fretboard, 2 hums, fixed bridge, locking tuners. The neck was the typical MM shape. Very nice. The neck was unfinished until you get to the headstock, there it is finished. The feel of the raw rosewood is undescribable. Very fast, smooth, oily. The hum sounds were pretty good, but a little muddy. There wasn't enough top end, and there was a little too much mids. I would attribute part of this to the rosewood, but also, the pickups were too low. The single coil tones were good, but there was way too much volume loss. It was pretty tough to walk out without it.

I hate to give it away, because it felt so good, but I don't need another guitar. the GC on Comm Ave.

Thanx, not that I'm going to get it. I'll have to check Natick next week.
