I love my Axis... I love it very much. It was setup decently when I bought it from the dreaded GC. I play it alot,so much in fact I had to change the strings today due to them dying (1 month for strings under constant playing ain't bad at all). Every time I play it, it's ALMOST perfect, the setup was good, but not great.
SO, I decided to take the time and attempt to set it up and clean it up as the GC bastards didn't take very good care of it for the year and 1/2 they had it. I took the whole thing apart, neck off body, took apart the floyd, everything but the electronics. I cleaned everything with their respective cleaners (mostly rubbing alchohol on everything except for the neck) cleaned every little part, every nook and cranny, every corner of the saddles and the tuners and so on and so forth.
When I took it apart, I failed to note where the shims that were already present went, so I could put it back to normal. Oooops. Ok, now what? well.. I did a little thinking, looked over the parts, looked at the neck and the body, did some calculations in my head and such and found what I felt would be the best places for each shim. So, I put the guitar back together, tuned it intonated it, locked it down, checked everything twice and plugged it into and amp....
DAAAAAAAAMMMMMMMMMNNNNN I'm good!
The action appears higher then before, though I don't know for sure cause the measurements before and after are exactly the same. If it is higher, then it's very slight. In anycase, this guitar looks new from the fricking factory and plays like I've never felt a guitar p[lay before.
Not sure of the point in this other then I want to share my experience here and once again share my exaultation for the EBMM guitars. I spent 2 hours on it. it felt like only 2 minutes. It was fun!!
Now I'm rambling.
I guess it just goes to show, there's NOTHING like a well-setup EBMM guitar!
Hey jongitarz, can I have a job?
