I picked up a second hand EBMM Axis and have a setup question I'm looking for some help with.

Currently the action is set pretty high - way higher than my EBMM EVH which is essentially the same guitar.

The trem was setup on an angle leaning backwards as the mounting screws were raised to high.
I've adjusted these down and leveled the trem to sit flat on the body, but am now getting bad fret buzz on the G & D strings on the 19th to 21st frets.

The action is still higher than I prefer (a good 1mm to 2mm higher than my EVH) but I can't seem to get rid of this buzz without raising the action even higher.

Any suggestions are welcome!

Here's a simple rule of thumb that may help...

Buzz on the lower frets - loosen truss rod (to increase neck relief).
Buzz on the highest frets - raise the action at the bridge (because the truss rod has no effect on the highest frets).

In your case, if you are buzzing on the higher frets (15 and up), raise the action, either by raising the saddles or raising the whole bridge. You may to have to adjust the trem springs to keep the bridge parallel to the top of the guitar when in tune. If the action is still too high, you may have too much neck relief, in which case, tighten the truss rod (turn to the right, see the photo in my profile).

Also bear two things in mind: 1) Every player hits the strings differently, some people need more action than others to avoid string buzz. Factory settings are only a guide and won't be optimum for everyone; 2) when we are doing a set up we can be so focused that we become hyper-sensitive to string buzz that won't be an an issue when we're actually playing. Don't let it get to ya!

And of course, as always, if you have any trouble, contact Customer Service. That's what they are there for.

Sounds like someone shimmed the neck to me. Check to see if there's a shim under there. If so take it out and do what Dr Kev said

That floyd should be resting on the body flush and parallel

thanks for the replies.

I'll check for a shim when I get home tonight.

There is not a screw that has been turned on this thing! Pickups lowered, bridge raise extra springs in the trem - you name it...

Thanks for the advice - I took the neck off and found 2 shims.
I've removed them and put everything back together and my immediate impression is much better.
The buzzing is gone and I've also dropped the action.

Now I just need to adjust the intonation and also pickup height and I'm done :D
