Axis setup

Hello, I am having a little difficulty setting up my new Axis. It plays great except the high E string seems a little close to the fretboard, consequently, I have a hard time grabbing the high E string to bend it and my finger slips off the string sometimes. I slightly adjusted the bridge posts on my Axis to raise the action a little. Now I start to notice that the bridge is no longer sitting perfectly level with the top of the guitar, so I lowered the bridge posts back a little. I then checked the profile of the neck thinking that I could maybe add a little relief to the neck (another way to raise the action). The neck looked almost dead straight, so I loosened the truss rod by about an 1/8th of a turn. By the way the truss rod was really tight, probably because the guitar was sitting at the music store for a while. The high E string height is a little better, but could still be improved a little. I am a little nervous about adjusting the truss rod and will leave it alone for now. Any advice would be greatly appreciated?

It sounds like you have done the correct procedures. It's only close if you can hear buzz when you play with mild picking strength. What makes it "seem" close? If the bridge is tilting up meaning the strings are now pulling more you could adjust it back down with the trem claws. I believe the musicman spec is that the bridge will raise on the g string 14th fret. The musicman bridge however is designed to sit on top of the body so be careful not to apply excessive force to the body hence the spec. My truss rod on my axis was very tight. I though it was a little unusual, but no problems when adjusting it. Also, there could be neck shims. This is really hard to diagnose on the internet without pictures. I would say take it to a tech.
