Axis sport and SS pickups

I love the sound in all 5 postions of the axis sport model. My question is When the Axis sport came out with the 4 wire pickup (to split coils) was it just luck that made them sound so good or was it a new design version of the original axis pickup that had only 2 wires from my understanding. Was it just luck that when you split the Axis coils that you got those great tones or was it in the original design to be splitted. Just curious!

I agree with you but can't help with the pups. details. Have you tried the switch pos. between 4 & 5 ?
