Hi,

my axis sport needs a new nut.

I would rather get a slotted one and start from there.

Any suggestion on a maker/model that would fit the best?

I am assuming that the nut slot is flat, not radiused, right?
So, this looks like it would fit with minor adaptation - the string spacing is correct, according to my measurements.

Thanks

You can get a replacement nut from EBMM.
I would not be completely slotted though, just would have the slots started for markers.
Then you'd have to get some nut files and slot them to your guitar's spec.
Also, they are not radiused, but are angled slightly towards the headstock to follow the string angle.

If your guitar was fitted with a compensated nut you will need to order a replacement from EBMM. A standard nut won't work well.

If the guitar was made before 2006 it probably has a standard nut, in which case just make your measurements and pick the closest match from GraphTech. Personally, I like the tusq nuts but any of the other materials will be great too.

Thanks guys!

My guitar's got a standard nut. It was made in 1998. The Graphtech nuts are conveniently available at a store nearby, that's why I am going to use that.

I just wanted to make sure the nut slot is flat before I buy a replacement.

As for the string grooves, I always file them anyway, as I like heavy strings. Nevertheless, I prefer to start with a slotted nut...less chances to mess up :D

My daughter cracked the nut on her ASS a couple of years ago and I got a new one from EBMM UK; it was not flat IIRC - I'm pretty sure it had a 10inch radius on its base. May be different now but I would not assume the slot is flat without checking with EBMM first.

Cheers,
Steve

Hi Steve,

CS got back to me and confirmed that the Axis has indeed a radiused nut slot (10")

I guess I'll be better off starting from scratch, then...

Thanks for your replies

Email AJ on the forum here (he is the man, EBMM Customer Service), and probably just take the neck off the guitar and ship it to them so they can install a nut, and let them know if you want to run a string gauge bigger than the standard 9s or 10s. No need to ship the entire guitar IMO.
