I have the opportunity to own an Axis Super Sport Limited Edition Rosewood (hardtail), has anybody played one of these guitars or have any information concerning the sound that it produces compared to the standard Axis SS? There is just not a great deal of available information.

My problem is when I go to try the guitar out the current owner has the guitar at his work and the only amp available is a Fender Champion 600.

The sustain is awesome on these. I had one and it definitely had a darker tone than my standard Super Sports. A really great guitar.

I have one, and really love it. It sounds very similar to my EVH, to me at least. And it does have the single coil options as well. Go for it!

Incredible tone IMO. My guitar has been nicknamed "Bundy" by the guys in my band because they said it looks like 1970's panneling!
Rest assured, nobody laughs at Bundy when the gig starts. I play it straight through my amp and get asked at every gig what is the deal with that guitar...I use a JP7 for our tunes that require the lower range, but the tone is really quite different with this all rosewood ASS...darker, meaner, and tons of definition when playing chords. I constantly hunt for rosewood necked MM guitars of any flavor because of how much I love this one, but somehow the pickups (original) matched to the ASS really enhance the overall tone of the rosewood, and to me, it is the most kick ass guitar I have ever owned! And that includes all my MM guitars. I highly suggest you give it whirl, especially in a rock setting.
Best of luck!

Thanks guys for your input…your pitch was perfect & that's good in music.

It's an opportunity to get an EBMM for a really great price and that doesn't come along very often.

No doubt a great hunk of rosewood is going to have a particular tone its just that there isn't a great deal of information and so I came to you guys for guidance and you didn't let me down. LOL, and it does look like the panelling in our family room growing up in the 70's.

The owner is a real character so I hope everything works out fine. I'll let you know how it works out Wednesday night.

If you have a good small amp bring it to see how you like the tone out of what you practice with, or depending on how well you know the guy I just realized you had major surgery, but maybe he could let you hold it over night due to the circumstances and how well you know him. Yes it gets a bit rough with limited editions as they are not as easy to checkout since there are not that many.

A little late here, but I love mine. Very warm, even tone. Search on threads started by me, you'll see plenty of vintage '70s panelling action. :D

Here's me at a blues festival last summer:

UPDATE: Axis SS Limited Edition Rosewood

I am now the proud owner of an Axis Super Sport Limited Edition Rosewood!

What an experience, first we had to go to a pawn shop to get the guitar out of hock and then we went back to to the owners place of business to try the guitar out. The strings were very old, the action was set far too low for my liking and the volume & tone knobs had been replace with white ones (simple fix there), but the tone was music to my ears.

The guitar will certainly need to be set up to my liking, but after many counter offers I was able to get this beauty for $900.

Can't write more now since my wife is calling me for dinner…damn!

Thanks guys for all your help and for the picture.
