Hello to everybody !
I'm a proud owner of Axis SS, HH, rosewood fretboard.
Initially after the purchase I have restringed with 10's. It's been a three years now that I own this axe, and I have always (like everybody) enjoyed it's wonderful neck.
Then things started to go wrong. I started having problems with tuning and intonation, and guitar seem to lose it's brightness and "zing" when auditioning unplugged.
The strings sound more dampened. After trying all the possible strings, gauges, I went to a local luthier/repairer.
After checking the guitar, the diagnosis is following.
The neck is too straight, it went out of the factory/shop that way !!!
Evidence for that is that the frets were originally levelled to compensate for this. The frets are levelled in obvious bow (full fret height until aprox. fourth fret then going lower and then gradually up to a full fret height somewhere behind twelve fret). I have noticed before that the frets are levelled around the middle of the neck but didn't realise the bow or the purpose I just thought they are simply dressed that way.
With a truss rod completely loosened there no concave in the neck.
With years neck has flexed and now it's simply too straight.
Suggested repair is that the frets should be removed and the fingerboard should be levelled in concave bow and then refreted.
I'm wondering if anybody have had a similar experience or comment - especially the Musicman stuff.
Thanks a Lot !!!
