Hi Peeps,

I have owned an Axis SS trem for many years and from time to time it gets taken out as my fave gig machine, and then it all comes flooding back to me, string breaks!!!

I have examined the saddles closely for sharp edges, even using 1200 grit polish to make sure there are none. I use EB Super Slinky 9's but string breaks occur on all 6 very often sometimes two breaks per gig.

I am not a heavy player and own 42 guitars none of the others suffer in the same way.

Any ideas ?

I have close up before/after photos of my saddles which I'll post later when I get them off the camera and it's easy to see where the problem was - not at the top where it leaves the saddle but at the bottom, right where it first meets the saddle as it passes up from the block. (FWIW, in my experience the Fender saddles can be the worst for this kind of problem - the short length of the slot in the saddle guarantee a hard break angle at the contact point).

Of course if you have the modern block type saddles, the saddles may not even be the problem at all but where the strings contact the bridge plate, or perhaps in the block itself (though that's pretty rare).

The precise location where they break will tell you everything so next string break, keep the ball end portion and look to see exactly where the break occurred.

I'll post those photos later today.
