The results of the Future Publishing Music Magazine Reader Awards for Gear of the Year 2003 have been published in the Feb, 2004 issue of Guitarist, and the Ernie Ball Music Man Axis Super Sport won a 3rd place finish in the "Best Electric Guitar over £1000" category... First and second place went to the Gibson Les Paul Elegant and PRS Single Cut, respectively. A third place finish is an real victory for Ernie Ball, beating out Fender, Jackson and Gretsch, and other more "familiar" makers. I think this speaks volumes about Ernie Ball build quality and customer satisfaction!

Cool.

What's Future Publishing Music Magazine?
Future Publishing are a UK publishing firm who put out some of the best guitar magazines in the world, to whit: Guitarist, Total Guitar and Guitar Techniques... They're huge in Europe where they're widely circulated and very well respected. The guitar magazines they publish are far and away superior to anything running off the American presses in terms of the quality of the writing, and the depth of interviews and articles and the objectivity of the reviews really sets them apart...

You can check them out on the web, here:

I own a Taylor and participate in the Taylorguitarforum (TGF). Whenever folks ask for electric recommendations, I always bring up Music Man (and get drowned out by folks recommending American Strats, Teles, etc.). When I get my Axis SS, I play to post pics and the information you posted above.

I think this is great news for MM and highly deserved!

Oh yeah, I know those mags, I just didn't know the publishers.

Yeah, those guys somehow manage not to suck.

Excellent.

EB/MM seems to be more appreciated in the U.K, for years I have seen reviews of EB/MM models in British guitar mags and almost every one is positive , and without exception they always say the EB/MMs are great bargains. I think Guitarist magazine from there always lists comparable models when reviewing a guitar and you more often than not see an EB/MM listed.

I really can't understand how they are undervalued, often used ones are selling for well below value. It must be the snob factor of having Fender, Gibson or PRS on your headstock.

Perhaps I'm more jaded, but another reason you may not see ebmm reviews is because you don't see ebmm guitar ads at all.

The lines nowadays are more blurred than ever between business and editorial content. I can't tell you how many times I see product reviews a few pages from ads fot that very product in guitar magazines.
