Hi as you may have seen from a previous thread i'm negotiating a deal to bring over an Axis SS from US to the UK.
I've been quoted about $210 for shipping by the shop and wanted to see if I could find a better deal.
So the info i'd need is the dimensions and weight of a Axis SS inside a hardshell case,if anyone had these it would be great.,also if anyone have any recommended shipping services?
The guitar would be coming from Hawaii, does shipping a guitar from there cost more because it's off the mainland?

Thanks

Thanks for the links,I've had a look it says the maximum insurance I can take out is $857 where as the guitar is worth $950.
But with what you say about automatically being insured upto $500 does that mean i'd only have to take out an additional $450?
But from looking at the site it says "$135.56 of automatic indemnity coverage is provided" where does it say i'd be covered for $500?

My Super Sport weighed in at 9kgs (20lbs) including the hardshell case. Hope that helps.

I'm having that same issue. Potential deal for my luke to UK.

With USPS from Caliifornia. Can't insure it for enough, no tracking or dely confirmation.

Just makes me uneasy.

Yes I would think so. It costs us mainlanders more to ship to Hawaii and Alaska. That's why you'll often see shipping only offered to the contiguous 48 states.

You could use Global EMS through the Post Office which offers a tracking number. I sent something to Canada once with this method and it worked fine.

I got a guitar sent to me from Japan the same way - quick and easy... oh and no danish civil servant would ever leave a package in the front yard - quite unlike how UPS does business...

I just shipped an Axis SS (with the original hard shell case) from Hawaii to Germany this morning. I put it in a cardboard box that was originaly 12 x 12 x 48 and re-sized it to better fit the guitar case. The weight came in at something like 18 pounds 10 ounces.

I used U.S. Postal Service Global Express shipping. The maximum insurance available is $500. The total shipping cost, with insurance, came out to about $92.

I really would like to be insured for the full amount,is there any way around it?

Good move going with the Global Express. I made the mistake of shipping a Tele via Air Mail to Norway, and it took almost three months to get there. The tracking number they gave me didn't work either. It did finally show up, but the guy I sold it to was ultra-pissed.
