Hi,

I'm very new to the EB Forum and really enjoy it. I first became introduced to the Axis guitars by believe it or not playing an OLP MM1. I had 3 of them and traded them. (Even had a JP OLP model at one time) I loved those guitars and was going to buy another one but I can't find them anywhere. Guitar Center stopped selling them. When I do decide to purchase an Axis it would be good to have OLP MM1 just as a backup on stage until I can afford a second (or third) Axis.

I then played an Axis at my local Guitar Center and FELL IN LOVE EVEN MORE!!! Now I'm looking for a guitar with a Piezo pickup and played the JP model and really loved how it felt, sounded and played. I had heard about Godin guitars and recently played one. It felt pretty good and the sound was nice. The piezo and acoustic settings on the Godin takes a bit to get use to but it sounded pretty good. However, I truly love the scale and neck of the Axis and Axis Super Sport (I'm leaning very, very strongly toward the Super Sport), but just wanted to hear from you guys.... your thoughts.

Peace,
TonyS

Well, I've never played a Godin, but the Super Sport is a fantastic guitar, especially with the piezo.

I've found that I can get all of the sounds that I like from it, from really nice cleans in positions 2 and 4, through to great rock sounds. There are also some cool 'jazzy' tones from the humbuckers played clean, it's so versatile.

The piezo gives an excellent 'pseudo' acoustic tone through a PA and really sounds the part for picked lines.

Add in the best feeling guitar necks around and a great tremelo unit, you've got one of the best all-round guitars available.

Hope this helps.

I don't know anything about the Godin. I've seen them. They seem like a good value.

I like the Axis Super Sport a lot. I'm allergic to locking trems. So, the Axis is out for me. Plus, you can't get a piezo with Axis. It has to be a Super Sport. They are great sounding guitars. They play great too. When you buy a Music Man, you have to understand that you will have a company that really stands by its product. Customer service is excellent. They are also a company that likes to stay in touch with the end user. Sterling Ball, Scott Ball, Jon Smith from repairs, and the customer service people get on this board and help us out, answer questions, etc. They are a pretty accessible bunch. You'll also find that this board is a little like a family too. I don't know much about Godin. So, I can't tell you if they are like EBMM. When you buy either guitar, you aren't just buying the guitar. You are buying a relationship with the company that produced it. Keep that in mind when you buy.

The Godin's i've played have been really heavy, and didnt play anywhere near as nice as a EBMM. but that was to be expected.

Rob is right-on with that.
While Godin can get you hooked-up with all the bells and whistles (piezo, synth, etc) ... EBMM makes the ideal piece of gear in terms of build quality, woods, cost, tones, etc:D

ive been playing godins for a few years now, currently im down to just grand concert nylon but ive been through most of the models. The godins are great instruments in their own right. The piezos are generally top notch and sound great on recording. As someone said above Godin is great if you want all the bells and whistles (you will pay for them too) and overall the instruments will do everything well. Anything clean sounds insane if you get the right one and tweak it just right.

Music man on the other hand, is great in that ive yet to play a bad sounding one. EVER. I am the proud parent of a MMJP7 and about the only other guitar that ive even picked up since i got was the Godin nylon string one.

Its a tough call, in my opinion, both make quailty instruments, great tone throughout, but what it comes down to is personal preferance. For me, I wouldnt trade my jp7 for anything so thats my 2 cents

My Godin is a great guitar, but in terms of feel and playability my EBMMs are way better. As a southpaw however the Godin offers options (e.g. piezo) and wood combination (mahogany body, maple cap, mahogany neck and ebony fret board) that I can't get on an EBMM.

They all are great guitars but I do have a slight preference for EBMM.

Cheers!
