Hello all. I'm a new user and my first time posting. Finally decided to register after reading the forum a few months. I bought a new Axis Supersport about 4 months ago. I've read that the neck was widened because of slippage on the high E. I still experience the same problem with the high E slipping. Mine is the only EB guitar I've ever played so I can't compare it to any others. Before the MM I played a 1978 Ibanez Les Paul copy that I bought brand new. I know there's a big difference in the necks between these two guitars and it's taken quite a while to get used to the different feel, but I'm wondering if I just need more time getting adjusted to the neck or will I have to alter my technique a little. I play a lot of blues and do a lot of string bending.
On a positive note, I love this guitar more than any other I've had. Over the years I've kicked around buying a Fender, but with this 5 position selector switch I have the best of both worlds. And the smoothness of the neck, well, what can I say.
I've been playing for about 50 years and I'm almost embarresed to say that I didn't even know EB made guitars until a saleman put one in my hands at a music store. I had all intentions on buying a Les Paul until I played the MM. Goodby Gibson, hello Ernie Ball.

It's a technique thing. A lighter touch on the E string is necessary. Could be that the Axis neck just isn't for you. But I have an EVH with the narrower neck and never have a problem with it slipping.

Bend up not down . . . .

Give it some time. The Axis has a smaller neck and neck profile compared to the Les Paul. It's an adjustment, especially coming from a Les Paul style guitar. It may even help to use a slightly heavier gauge string on the high E.

I had the same issue when I first got mine,....coming from an Ibanez Wizard Prestige neck, it takes a little bit of technique adjustment to get used to it, however, it should come in time. Factory set-up the guitar was awesome, but I had adjusted it to play 1/2 step down....have since set up my neck again to play in standard tuning,...took me a solid few hours to adjust it perfect,....have no high E string issues anymore. You will get used to it. If you don't, send it to me :),...I'll send you my shipping address!

Same thing here. When I first got an Axis SS, I'd slip the high E off of the fretboard every now and again. (Bad habit, maybe? I'm self-taught.) It just takes getting used to. I never do it now.

I'm still getting used to my Axis. I love it, though. The one big difference for me (aside from the obvious differences in neck and body shape) is that with the EBMM, I play it ALL the time. Practicing is fun again!

I appreciate everyone's feedback. I don't need anyone's shipping address 'cause this baby ain't goin' nowhere! Seriously though, thanks for your thoughts. It has been quite a transition with the neck but I know it will be worth it. This is the sweetest guitar I've ever played and I've been playing since the late 50's (oops, showing my age) Anyway, I changed the string gauge fron 9's to 10's and adjusted the intonation and it feels much better to me. It sure won't be a chore to keep playing it. I've never practiced so much. Well, I have to go, it's calling me again!!

I posted pretty much the same question a couple of weeks ago about my axis sport. I was having a really tough time with the E string but sure enough, after spending a little more time playing it, I've gotten used to the narrow neck and I'm not pulling the E string off the neck any more.
