As someone in the market for a new Axis, not necessarily a tribute (prefer other colors like black cherry burst, pacific blue burst), i see the tribute as mostly a cosmetic thing - which is great. What worries me is the new Floyd. Those who have gotten theirs - is there a big difference?

Also, why wouldn't they just start putting these on all Axis models, say starting in 2012. In which case it seems wise to delay buying a 2011.

Thoughts?

Thanks,
Skeet

The new floyd? The only change to the EBMM floyd that I'm aware of are:

1. Trem arm interface push/pull type for inserting and removing.

2. The locking nut being secured from the fingerboard side.

As far as I know, all these updates are ergonomic and design based (don't see how they could interfere functionally with the guitar) and are included on ALL new Axii, not just the tribute runs.

I'd say it's an updated floyd, not so much a new one.

ScubaSteve, don't forget new saddles and the baseplate from what I've seen is thicker, and new pivot posts as well. All good upgrades from my point of view, I mean you can't go wrong with MIJ Gotoh. Only thing I'm hesitant on is the new bar as I like the feeling of having a nut there where the bar screws into but not knocking it till I try it, just things I'm used to thats all.
