Axis vs Axis SS

For you folks who own both Axis and Axis SS, do you find the Axis (with the whammy bridge) is brighter/more trebly than the SS? I presume they have the same EVH/Dimarzio custom pickups , so I figured the bridge made the Axis I played sound brighter than my SS.

Might have been the 4 G12-75s in the cab I was playing through, too, cause normally I use a greenback/V30 cab. 75s are typically trebly compared to GBs or V30s, if I'm not mistaken.

Thinking about becoming a two-Ball man, eyeing a burnt-apple sparkle Axis at GC. Sweet player and the sparkle finish looks so deep, almost hypnotic.....

I don't think it's the bridge as much as the way the pickups are wired. It always seemed the axis had a little more umph because the coils don't split. I had a hardtail axis at one point and compared it to a hardtail supersport.

There's also the tone knob to account for.

Both very good points. I was considering adding a concentric tone pot to an axis, but after playing it a couple of hours, the neck pup seems to provide ample tone variation. It is an edgier sounding axe than the SS and I wouldn't want to introduce tonesuck with another pot when I could just switch to the SS.
Smart move by EB not adding a tone pot, most folks would want more oomph from their whammy bar guitar. Guess I'm going to become a 2-Ball man tomorrow.....

To be honest I find my Gold ASS has more roar than my Axis.
However I dont really notice much difference. The floyd changes how it feels thats about all really. I personally never use Tone controls much if at all.

However, coil tap you're axis... its divine.

What about using an EQ pedal instead to alter the frequencies then you wouldnt have to change guitar?

I have thought about coil tapping my Axis, but it sounds so good as is I really don't want to mess with it.

Although, there may be another in my near future so coil tapping before I bond with it may be an option... lol

You would be silly not to, the tones available when the coils are split are divine especially when clean.
