I found a musicman axis in a pawn shop with a O on the headstock and musicman written on the back of the headstock. It has a volume knob and a maple neck, what model would this be and how old would it be?

If the logo on the headstock looks like this then it's OLP as Colin mentioned.
OLP stands for Officially Licensed Products. They are cheaper know offs created to help control the copycat market and to introduce entry level buyers to something similar to Ernie Ball.
These guitars are not Ernie Ball Music Mans. They only look like it.
If you do a search you will find a lot of information on them. They are great bang for the buck.

$250 is not a good deal for a used OLP in my opinion... I think you can buy a brand new one for that....
