I'm thinking about buying an Axis, one of the ones wearing a scratch plate. How are they routed ? I already have a Silo modded for Tele pups and bridge. Its a 1990 6 bolt and is swimming pool routed.I think an Axis would be a better guitar to base these mods on, but I dont want to do any routing or mods that cant be reversed.

Hey, u talkin to me? NY
Unless the pickguard was added by the owner, the original solid color Axis' with pickguards are almost impossible to find. From my understanding, not that many were produced. I always wanted one too...

As far as I can recall the Axis models with pickguards are still rear-routed for the specific pickups on the guitar - so the HSS one would have 2 single coil routes and a humbucker route but no channels or control cavities, etc. like you would find on a Silhouette Special body. You could remove the pickguard on an HH model and it would look like a non-pickguard HH model except for the holes the pickguard screws left behind.

What kind of mods are you thinking about? I have a black axis, modded with routing (professionally done) for a middle pickup, which I probably could be willing to sell:

(I still have the original neck pickup)

Rasmus, thats a beautiful guitar that's almost perfect. It just needs a hard tail with through body stringing. I have a 1990 6 bolt thats modded like this and feel that an Axis would be a more Tele like platform. I have been using it as a normal three pup Silo for a couple of months but prefer it T style.
