Axis?

I primarily play bass , but I occasionally sit in a country/rock band. I want an Axis, but can I split the humbuckers into one (bridge) single coil for a "country sound"?
Ant other advice on Axis vs Axis SS is greatly appreciated. Thanks,

Sandman, if you are an occasional player, I'd recommend the ASS (Axis Super Sport) or discontinued Axis Sport over the Axis. The Axis has a Floyd trem and only a 3 way switch. The ASS and Sport have a 5 way and come in hardtail and vintage trem.

So with the ASS and Sport it'll do what you want to do. The Sports you can get reasonable on the Bay, Craigslist etc.

Also, the Sport is made from has an Ash body where as the Axis and ASS have Basswood bodies.

The Axis doesn't split its humbuckers as configured, plus you would be dealing with a floyd rose bridge.

The Axis SS splits the buckers in the 2 & 4 positions but not to individual coils. you either get the two outside or two inside coils.

If you want to stick with the Axis vibe I'd suggest the SS with the MM90's for what you referenced playing. You can think of it as a tele on steroids and can comfortably cross from a country vibe through to classic/southern rock without a hitch.

The Albert and the Sil Special can also handle country to rock with no problems. Regular Silo too for that matter. All very versatile.

Try them and see which fits and what you are comfortable playing.

Axis super sport would be ideal, with MM90's, as recommended above by the Greene machine.

Or get an AL and make me jealous.

The guitar player in my band has a Tele with a P90 in the bridge, and it does sound sweet. I think that might just be the ticket. What is the difference between the Sport and the Super Sport. And thanks for the help, I'm pretty clueless about MM guitars.

Axis sport isn't produced any more so you'd have to find a used one. It's an ash body and came in several configs. s/s/s - h/s/s - h/h and mm90s.

Super sport is the current production model. the h/h version with split capability is a basswood body with maple cap. The mm90 is ash with a maple cap. You can get maple or rosewood board for either.
Then there's the rosewood version with rosewood caps over the same body woods referenced and an all rosewood neck. You can get either a fixed bridge or vintage trem.

Thanks for the link, PM sent. I was thinking the mm90's might be for me, but I bet the HH models are real versatile. Never played one of these, but I aint scared, I never played a Bongo before I bought one either, and that was a great move!
