Hi Everyone - I have been away for a few years - You know searching for the Wholly Grail (Which I believe really does'nt exist) Fender,Gibson,Gretsch,Guild,G&L, and a host of others. But during this Recession/Depression I have sold off everything but my trusty Martin custom. I recently came across a used MM Sub-1 and decieded to take the plunge. I need aleast one electric in the house. Any thoughts or advise you can share on this model. It has two Humbuckers and a plastic pickguard. Looks like the perfect model for my needs. Thanks - Ken

If all I had was a Sub I'd still be very happy. I played the hell out of mine and loved every minute, bordering on needing a refret now. Good score.

You've come full circle, gasman :)

Just as Slingy says, pretty much all you need. Great guitars.

There is also real potential for tweaking here and there, if you were to personalise it.

There are many threads on pick guard upgrades (Silo Special PG is a popular mod), locking machine upgrades, and pickup changes. Have a look around in those.

Indeed, I will have a new thread this week on a series of mods to my Sub, keep an eye out for that ;)

Thanks Guys - This a great forum to belong too. I will post pics this week. If anyone can point me towards some links on Custom Sub's that would be great. Thanks so much for the welcome. Ken

Ah, you bought a "gateway". It's a great guitar in its own right, but will lead you to more (and more) EBMM purchases. I know it did with me.

I also was curious - I notice on "You Tube" and such that allot of the Ernie Ball users seem to Shed - Are their others players that use their Guitars for Country/Folk, Jazz or Blues? Of course I am famaliar with Albert and his Great Country Playing. Thanks Ken

Gasman - Howdy. You just can't go wrong with a Sub 1. Fantastic guitars. I have three and one is wearing an original EBMM Silo Spec guard. It's in my album. My "Sub Special" is currently my #1 guitar. I had a Silo Spec SSS guard for it, sold it to a gent in the UK. It was pretty good too. Better than most strats I've come across. Need info shoot me a PM.

Hey Jim-- Thanks for the reply - My Sub 1 arrives tommorow. Its red with a Black plastic guard. I had a few MM in the past - Black sparkle Luke, Cr Silo, and a Autumn Silo. I actually always prefered them to Strats. But I am such a Guitar addict I just can't seem to hold on to them for to long. I wish I still had that Autumn Silo. During these hard times though I am trying to just own one Acoustic and one electric. My Martin I will never sell - and I sold all my electrics - Then I see this Sub1 for a super price. Bingo - Had to have it. Will post pics this week. If is as mint as the seller says it is - I might just keep it stock. Ken

Hey - Thank you Kev! My Sub arrived today and like the seller said "Dead Mint" - The only mod I might do is put holeless Chrome covers over the Humbuckers/ Just to dress it up a bit. I will post some pics soon. Thanks--- Ken

Looking forward to some Sub pics, gasman

Just an update; i've started my Sub project thread over here. There are some great threads already kicking around. I've taken a lot of inspiration from existing EBMM models as well as modded Sub's for mine ;)
