Hi.
Haven't been around here for a while and noticed that there's some new colors available that's called the family reserves that's available in limited runs? Are those colors available to order through the retailers like musiciansfriend or likewise? I would really like an Axis trans black and/or a Axis emerald burst.
Thanks in advance.

There are more differences other than the colors. They also have a Mahogany tone block and cool inlays haha. And of course, the new finishes. I haven't seen any of these on Musicians Friend, so I would order from a local dealer or something.

Bit of Advice

Do Not purchase the BFR, if your looking for the sound of the axis do not get the BFR. I say this for a few reasons. Number 1, it goes from 1500 dollars to 2600 dollars. The reason for that is it has a different paint job, and a mahogany block or something like that, so your basically gonna end up with a guitar sounding like a Les Paul. But if that's what you want, go for it.

The best part is the guy's logic... "if your looking for the sound of the axis do not get the BFR. I say this for a few reasons.

"Number 1, it goes from 1500 dollars to 2600 dollars. The reason for that is it has a different paint job,..."

And this is a reason it doesn't sound like an Axis? Because it costs more and has a different paint job? lol?

"...and a mahogany block or something like that, so your basically gonna end up with a guitar sounding like a Les Paul. But if that's what you want, go for it."

A Les Paul has a mahogany body, mahogany neck, rosewood fretboard, maple top, a 24.75" scale, a 12" radius neck, and different pickups.

I can definitely see where you're coming from with that mahogany tone block...definitely turned the guitar into a Les Paul...

Didn't you have have to agree to be over 13 when you joined? (btw you said "I say this for a few reasons" but you only enumerated "reason 1" lol)

Flamers ftl...but now I must digress so I can live by the words of the quote below. :) I just had to point out your silly reasons. ;)

If you want the BFR, get it! Don't listen to that guy. It will be an Axis with more sustain and warmth (I think).

So no-one feels like welcoming Mr Axisforever02 to the forum then?
Opinions differ, but that seems a harsh one unless he can justify it from experience.....which since I think no-one owns a BFR Axis, it's going to be hard to do.

We probably would have had he not kicked off with a first post like that!
nothing from him about hey im new around here etc , just straight into slagging it off!
He's going on the 'this wood sounds like this' thing which is not always true. i agree no one as far as we know has a bfr axis so yes very harsh!

We surely need an irony smiley on here!
Don't think he's going to be a long term friend!

Do you think he came in here to kick up a little dirt fellas? Why should we care what he thinks. Odds are he's never even touched a BFR Axis..let alone have first hand knowledge to form a structured educated opinion.

Opinions based on experience are purely subjective. Opinion based on non-experience (for the most part) are pointless.

In getting back to the original thread here just briefly; What do you guys think when deciding on a color on the Axis??

Does the "creme" binding (which I love) have to be a perfect match for the body color, or do you not even consider that?

Anytime I think of color on my Axis, I always include the creme binding in the overall color scheme.

I always thought Carbon Blue would have looked cool, but I was never able to see one. What's the scoop with you guys?

I agree. It would have to have a maple fretboard though.

One things for sure, with the BFR Axis we'll really have a good chance to evaluate the difference the mahogony tone block can make to a guitar since that really is the primary difference between that and the standard Axis.

The BFR Luke sounds very different from the standard Luke (in a very good way!) but then you are adding mahogony AND maple to the alder body.

It'll be interesting to compare against the standard model when they start shipping the Axis BFR...
