ok i've been looking into replacement pickups, and i think i've decided on Bartolini. The thing is, i have a sterling with the pick-up selector and the phantom coil...any one know if i can still have the pickup selection with the bartolini, also, would i need to hotglue the phantom coil to the bartolini?

Wow.....45 hits and no replies.......Ummmmmm.....I posted a similar thread about 5 months ago and everyone's question to me was "Why do ya wanna do that?" If you find some interesting information out let me know. I'm still kind of curous and interested in putting a Bartolini in my Sterling as well.

I have heard Bart's pickup and was none too impressed. I hesitate to say it's a waste of money, because of course it's all subjective, but I always found the original pickups to be perfect. I suggest you upgrade at your own risk. You may like it, but from my own personal experience (and I know I am not alone in this) the original pups and preamps of these basses is about as good as it gets.

Just so you know, I try to chip in if I know anything useful about a given subject....I'm completely dumb about this one.

I've had Barts in a few basses and never cared for them. Undefined, not enough growl....but now these were in a Lakland 55-94, which features a MM type Bart in the bridge position…the other Bart was in a Modulus Flea, which had no midrange at all. I have sworn off Barts forever.

Give me the Duncans! But that’s what makes the world go ‘round….

realy?... barts rated the highest in bass players review of pickups...i'm not sure how old the issue is tho, but it was dedicated to reviewing bass pickups...also my bass teacher highly recemended them, and i tryed them on a pudula and i loved it...i just gota know if my dream is possible...and i dont plan to change the preamp that would be tooo much work and money, i just want a new pick up becuase this ones giveing me allllooooottt of problems, like poping up every now and then and rubing agaisnt the string, when i slap the strings hit the coils and i get that thumping sound (i've never had the problem b4) and the phatom coil came broken on it when i bought it

too much trouble for me

Shaver---what makes the pickup pop up? Are the pickup screws unscrewing from the wood? Maybe instead of buying a new pickup, you need to fill the holes and rescrew the screws in for a better bite, which would keep the pickup down..If this happens to be the problem then a new pickup will do the same, and pop up..

I also talk about this a few months ago about the pup situation because I actually change out every thing in my SR5 at one time to a Bart" MMC5 pup/Aguilar Op3 preamp and was very happy with the tone of it.It didn't sound like the proverbial "Ray but that was fine with me because at that time the SR5 was the only axe that I had to work with at time (because my other basses were stolen but later recovered)and I wasn't really diggin the tone of the Ray.However I've put the original pup/electronics back into the Ray.
