In rehearsal last night, my amp started distorting (I call it amp farts). I was panicked, we tried swapping cables, power, amp, cab, nothing. Finally I remembered to check my battery, it was dead. I didn't think of it because I had just popped a new one in a couple weeks ago. Must have left the bass plugged in. Whew!

More likely a substandard battery to begin with.

The wisest man I ever knew taught me a lesson I'll take to the grave:

Never overlook the obvious.

If I had a nickel for every technical glitch I've solved simply by looking behind a "malfunctioning" piece of equipment and plugging the darned thing in, I'd...

... well, I'd have less than the price of a cup of coffee, but it's still good advice.

Yeah, I've been a computer guy for 22 years and learned early on to try the simple fix first. So many guys look for the craziest possible solution when it's something simple.

Normally I would have tried the battery first, but we were uh, "celebrating" our singer's birthday. Heavily.

More likely a substandard battery to begin with.

How does a computer tech fix a flat tire?

Moves it to the other side of the car to see if the problem goes away :D

LOL. One of my favorite computer-related comics:
