Sorry if this has been asked previously, I did a search on cases but found TOO many threads to search through so thought I'd just ask.

Can anyone comment on the interchangability (really a word?) of a stingray case? I was just curious if a Sterling or Bongo would fit into a standard (recent) stingray case or not? I seem to recall the Sterling has its own case, and it tends to rattle around a bit in a stingray case cuz I believe someone was issued with the wrong case way-back-when, but not sure if I'm correct or if the bongo will fit at all.

Any responses greatly appreciated. If unknown, perhaps someone with all three guitars and a stingray case can do the experiment for me.

Cheers in advance,

Dave

I *think* that there are only two bass cases; 4980 for all Bongos and Stingrays and 5981 for Sterlings.

You are correct!!

Sounds good (thanks!) but does ANYONE carry a Sterling around in a Stingray case? I MAY be getting a used Sterling without a hardcase, and just wondered if I'd be able to carry it around safely in my Stingray's case IF extra protection was required.

Not sure if cases can be purchased separately, but even if so would probably be difficult sourcing one here in the UK (though I'm sure if EB did offer them, I could eventually acquire one through the appropriate channels).

Yeah, you can order a spare case through your EBMM dealer.

I've got an 04 Stingray and an 05 Stingray, and the 05 case is longer than the 04. I figured it was a change to make the newer case more universal for the Bongo.

There is a Hiscox case that fits nicely.

+1

Hiscox cases are great. I use one as my "go to" case since it will fit my Bongo, Stingrays, P's, J, Ric, or Gibson EB-4L. IMHO, Hiscox has the best neck and headstock protection of any generic case on the market.

a sterling will not fit into a stingray case nor will a stingray fit into a sterling case. i've tried. a sabre will sort of fit into a sterling case and fits fine in a stingray case. worth noting is that for some reason, an OLP4 will NOT fit into a stingray case.

now you know and knowing is half the battle.
