Why is it that MM bass types have their own specific colors? I was looking for a stingray classic in sky blue (or powder blue) because I've seen one in a picture that looked really cool, but I just checked out their website and they don't offer that color. But when I click on their other basses, some of them do offer that color. So frustrating. In my opinion, every guitar/bass manufacturer should offer light blue as a standard color. Everyone loves it! Powder blue with a maple fretboard is just a great combo. Both Fender and EB don't offer it in their standard instruments. I just don't understand. Instead, they offer grey, maroon, and other boring standard colors. I'd even go for that mint green color if I could get with a maple fretboard. But no, I guess I'll have to choose diarrhea brown. :) Seriously, if they just offered those nice colors, I'd order 2 right now. Yes, I care about the look of my basses in case any wise ass has anything to say. haha!

I like Sky Blue too. It will be my first choice (if possible) next time I am shopping for a bass in a solid color.

Don't overlook the EBMM Sterling bass. They are awesome, and I think they come in the Sky Blue. I say that because I was a Stingray player for a long time, bought 3 Stingrays, played lots of club gigs with them... then tried a Sterling and discovered I loved the slimmer neck AND the sound better. I wish I'd have tried a Sterling years ago. Stingrays are great too; find what suits your hands and ears best and try to get a color that inspires you and gives you the look you want.

The classic stingrays are somewhat unique, from a marketing stand point. Why they have Diego Blue and not Sky blue is beyond me, but in general there are always a limited number of colors that guitars/basses are available in.

Yeah, but that particular combo is really hard to find because it was a one-off... and because it was a one-off, most owners won't sell. Isn't that how it usually goes? ;)

You can find mint green and powder blue classics, at many places. And if you email customer service, they will tell you where they are.

Just saying..

Seems like any factory has to produce what buyers want in order to avoid holding unsold inventory.
I thought I read here years ago that the metal flakes and pearls didn't sell well and that players still wanted black, white, and sunburst more than any color.
Is there a way to know what limited addition colors may be on the horizon and pre-pay an order?

If you had some contacts you could find out.

the fact that black, white, and sunburst are still the most popular isn't surprising at all. those are "classic colors" that lots of people identify with. Also, simple colors are slightly cheaper for almost all manufacturers. Metal flake is harder to do, and easier to screw up.

I'm pretty sure they build from actual orders and not spec. And when they open a window (usually for a month) is when we find out about special runs.

Does anyone know if the Classic Sterling and/or Classic Stingrays are going to come out in Mayan Silver? So far I can only find it in the Sabre. Bass Central said they didn't see any but I figured I'll come to the source and ask.
