You should try a few as example, so you can feel it. It's , IMP, the best feel and you can get the best quality output, too.

I just got and love my Phil Jones Bass Buddy. Has a switch for active and passive pickups, killer eq range for bass, quiet as a mouse.

Yeah, I would LOVE to have a Gas Cooker but I'm not going to spend $1400 on a DI for live use. I know Paul Turner uses one live but come on...he's Paul Turner. It's also a preamp so I'm sure it would be great for recoding but for most guys the JDI for around $200 is going to be killer.
